“Just as a painter adds colors to a canvas, I add layers of molten glass over a stainless steel mandrel, resulting in my miniature masterpiece… a bead!” — Susan Cudaback Lichtenthal
Each one of my beads I create are by hand and fire… with nothing more than rods of glass. The torch I use is fueled by a mix of gas and oxygen. At about 1800 degrees the glass flows and I’m able to create. I roll the molten glass onto a mandrel within the flame of the torch. A constant twirling action and gravity makes the bead round. Like a painter, I add different colors of glass and blend and mix the colors.
My passion for art and creating has blossomed into a successful business, appropriately named: “Beads by Susan”. As a Roycroft Master Glass Artisan, I strive for perfection with every creation. You will find my pieces of Artisan Jewelry, containing these extraordinary beads, are priced affordable.
